Hennepin County:  Pets in the Park program allows dogs on designated trails on a 6 foot or shorter leash.  Owners must clean up after their dogs.  Dogs are not allowed in picnic areas, beaches, play areas, or on paved trails or ski trails.  Check out the Hennepin Parks' Pets in the Park website for a list of parks.
Hennepin Parks also has three pet exercise/training areas.  Dogs are allowed off-leash at these parks in designated areas.  In order to use these areas a Special Use Permit must be purchased for $25.00 from the Park Gues Services staff, 612-559-9000.   The permit is good for 1 year from the date of purchase at all three parks.   The purchaser must agree to the rules and conditions and must purchase a Park Parton permit for $25.00 to cover parking fees.  The four parks with off-leash areas are:

*Elm Creek Park Reserve: Fenced park in Maple Grove with approximately 25 acres and a pond.

*Cleary Lake: Fenced with a pond.

*Crow Hassen Park: Unfenced park in Hassen Township (northwest of Maple Grove) with many acres.

*Lake Sarah Park: Unfenced park in Greenfield (west of Corcoran) with many acres.

Ramsey County:  Ramsey County offers three off-leash dog areas that are free to use.  Dogs need to be leashed when walking to and from the off-leash areas.  Check out the Ramsey County's Off-Leash Dog Areas website for more information on the parks, rules, and even maps to the parks.

*Rice Creek Regional Trail Corridor in Shoreview has approximately 5 acres and is not fenced

*Lower Afton area of Battle Creek Regional Park in Maplewood is approximately acres and not fenced

*Arlington-Arkwright is 4.2 acres and fenced

White Bear Lake:  White Bear Lake has two unofficial dog parks.  Your dog MUST be well behaved and return to you immediately after you tell it to come.  You must bring a leash, pooper scooper, rabies tag, and your dogs current license tag to avoid being fined.  This could easily be taken away so please only bring well behaved dogs to these parks.  For more information call 653-6404.   The parks are Podvin Park on 9th Street and Lakewood Hills Park at Orchard and White Bear Avenue near Highway 694.

Minneapolis:  There are two groups called Responsible Owners of Mannerly Pets (ROMP) for Ramsey County that are supporting the current parks and working to get more off-leash dog areas established in Minnesota.

*Minnehaha Park: located at the south end along Mississippi River, just east of the intersection of new Hwy 55 and east 54th Street

*Lake of the Isles: 2.6 acres, fully fenced, located across the parkway on the south end of the lake, near the channel that connects to Lake Calhoun.

*Riverside Park: 1.28 acres, fully fenced, located south of I-94 and the Mississippi River, between Franklin Terrace and the access road to West River Parkway

*Columbia Park: 2.3 acres, fully fenced, off Saint Anthony Parkway across from the Columbia Golf Course driving range
